The idea of Ilue Esan Ebe Non Ohenhen has arisen from the dearth of textbooks in the teaching and learning of Esan since the Esan Orthography was approved by the National Language Centre in 1987.

Before now, most texts in Esan were written without paying serious attention to the approved orthography or the multifarious nature of the Esan language. The result is that these books are neither mutually intelligible nor standard. Thus, the need to have a text that can be both standard and generally accepted became uppermost on the minds of Esan speakers.

This book has come to meet this need as it cuts across several dialects of Esan, utilising modern orthography. It is, no doubt, bound to be a handy tool for the pupils, teachers and sundry speakers of Esan,
